1890's Kitchen Opens Up for Modern Living

Location

Hollywood District - Brookfield, IL

Project type

Kitchen Renovation with Wall Removal

Photographer

Nick Gerber

The owners of this 1890's home wanted an open floorplan that respected the building's historic architecture. By removing the wall between the dining room and the cramped kitchen, the space filled with light. We were able to add an island, which provides more work space and the seating area for three. In the breakfast nook, we walled off what was once an open stairwell to the basement and added cabinets to make up for storage lost with the dining room wall removal. The owners now have a calming and bright space that accommodates modern living and family gatherings of all sizes.
